The Croft School Limited owns and operates The Croft Preparatory School.  Ownership of the company rests with the Thornton family, as sole proprietors. Leadership, oversight and management are conducted by the Proprietors, the Governing Committee and management teams led by the Headmaster.   

Vision   
The vision of the Proprietors is to deliver an outstanding educational experience to all pupils at The Croft, utilising the extensive facilities on our wonderful 30-acre site.   The Thornton family is fully committed to continued ownership and the long-term future.  The combination of family ethos and educational excellence will continue to be at the heart of The Croft Preparatory School.   

Strategy  
The core strategy is to sustain and continue to build upon the progress made throughout the tenure of the current headmaster.  To raise educational standards to the highest level for all pupils.

  • Commit to a culture of Educational Excellence. 
  • Promote the School’s Core Values. 
  • Regularly review and appraise our School Improvement Plan. 
  • Further develop the skills of staff to deliver outstanding teaching.    
  • Seek to maintain the highest ISI validations of standards in all areas.  

Proprietors’ responsibilities 
The Proprietors primary responsibility is to create and develop an excellent environment for The Croft Preparatory School to educate their pupils. 

The Proprietors have the responsibility for the legal compliance in relation to the Independent School Statuary Regulations (ISSR) and other relevant organisations.  


The legal responsibility for ensuring The Croft Preparatory School adheres to all relevant regulatory compliance, including safeguarding, as issued by the DFE, lies with the Proprietors.  The Proprietors share the monitoring of how effectively safeguarding regulations are implemented at The Croft with the Governing Committee. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is responsible for ensuring all safeguarding regulations are implemented at The Croft.    

The Proprietors delegate the responsibility for monitoring the educational provision to the Governing Committee.  The Governing Committee provides challenge and support to the educational leadership. The Governing Committee keeps the Proprietors fully informed of its activities and procedures.
