Meet Our Proprietors

Our Proprietors
Our proprietors are responsible for the overall provision, stability and direction of the school. As owners, they ensure the school is well-resourced, financially secure and equipped with the facilities needed to operate and develop effectively. They oversee major decisions, both educationally and in terms of infrastructure, supporting the improvement and maintenance of our site while ensuring full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

As a family-owned business, every family member has either played an active role within the school or attended it themselves, creating a deep personal connection and commitment to its success. Through careful planning, strong leadership and ongoing investment, our proprietors provide the foundation that allows the school to function smoothly and grow with confidence.

Mrs Lyndall Thornton

Mrs Lyndall Thornton, affectionately known as the “fairy godmother” of our school, brings a personal, creative touch that enriches the experience of every child. She was formerly married to the late Mr Tim Thornton, who brought the school to its current location.

A former Art Teacher with a deep passion for the Creative Arts, Mrs Thornton fosters an environment that sparks imagination and creativity. From creating ever-changing seasonal displays outside the Music Room in Mundell Court to guiding children through a study of angels in art, her influence is visible in countless small details. She is also a constant presence at key events throughout the school year, reading at assemblies and conducting her own creative sessions, adding warmth and inspiration to the children’s learning.

Mr Barney Thornton

Continuing the family legacy, Mr Barney Thornton, a former KES pupil with a love of sport and travel, oversees the day-to-day operations of the school. He has also taught at the school and sent his own two children here. He brings an immersive approach to learning, believing that a happy, confident child achieves their best. Barney combines personal experience with professional expertise to ensure smooth operations and create an environment where every child can thrive. Under his leadership, the school has grown in both academic achievement and community engagement, steering it toward continued success.

Mrs Jenny Thornton

Mrs Jenny Thornton, wife of the late Sam Thornton, has played a very active role in the school for many years. Sam, as Head of Prep, taught science and geology, inspiring generations of children. Jenny, a children’s Occupational Therapist with nearly 35 years of experience in mainstream education, contributes her professional expertise to the school’s safeguarding team, helping maintain strong and effective practices. All four of her children are former Croft pupils and her dedication continues to enrich the learning environment and support the school’s mission to nurture every child.
