Communication and Interaction Needs


My child has difficulties with Communication and Interaction.


This can include:



  • Understanding language.
  • Using and processing language.
  • Understanding how to communicate socially with other people.
  • Conditions include: Specific Language Disorder, ASD/ASC (Autism), Asperger Syndrome, speech sound disorders/delay.
  • Stammering – advice given to families about how to access support from outside agencies.
  • Please see separate policy for EAL (English as an Additional Language) services in the school.

All children at The Croft can access:


  • Quality First Teaching with appropriate differentiation (including best SEND practice).
  • Visual aids to support key vocabulary, concepts and themes.
  • Access to homework support clubs in the Prep part of the school.
  • Speech and Language screening in Early Years.
  • Access to assessment for identification of significant needs.

Support for targeted groups of children may include:



  • Assessment and identification of language need and feedback to parents and staff.
  • Small group sessions with specialist teacher/LA/ which can include; vocabulary, inference and deduction and language building blocks.
  • Skills assessment and results.
  • In-class LA support in some lessons.
  • Year 6/2 Transition Group
  • Lego Therapy
  • Early Talk Boost Intervention in Little Crofters and Little Crofters Pre-school.

Targeted individual support many include:


  • 1:1 sessions with specialist SEN staff in the school.
  • Individual LA support in some lessons.
  • Ongoing monitoring and regular feedback to parents and children
  • Exam access arrangements
