Reception

Children enter Reception for the first year of statutory schooling.

Reception is where more formal school work begins, preparing your child for lifelong learning. Class sizes are small (maximum of 20 pupils) to ensure that your child will receive personal attention from our dedicated and enthusiastic teaching and support staff, enabling your child to fulfil their potential.

Through a careful blend of traditional activities and independent investigation, your child will quickly cultivate a love of learning. Music and French lessons with our specialist teachers continue in Reception, as does Forest School, where your child will develop increased confidence in the natural environment. PE (Gymnastics, Games and Dance) is taught by specialist staff and our specialist teacher teaches Swimming weekly in our on-site pool.

When ready, your child will begin the School’s reading scheme. Our thorough teaching of phonics and spelling will ensure your child can make excellent progress, with the achievements of many children exceeding the Early Learning Goals at the end of Reception.
