World Book Day

Author, poet and songwriter (and former teacher), John Dougherty, joined children in Pre-Prep and Prep to help them celebrate World Book Day.

Alastair C and Rory S eagerly explained how great it was to have an author visit the school whose books were so brilliant! The pupils also thought John was extremely funny and really enjoyed joining in with his song 'Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face!' John was equally impressed with the children's imagination as they helped him dream up new characters and a title for his next book – their combined effort created: 'International Hedgehog Smuggling!'

Pupils came dressed in pyjamas or as their favourite book character; it certainly was peculiar to see Gangsta Granny, Robin Hood, Pippi Longstocking and a Musketeer in lessons!

World Book Day is an event that both pupils and teachers always support and enjoy at The Croft, reminding pupils how inspirational a good book can be. World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.
