Prep children welcomed a very special visitor to their assembly - Whisky the Polo Pony. Whisky was joined by his owner, Ella Cloake, and Major Carney from the local polo ground, the Dallas Burston Polo Club. Ella and Major Carney introduced the game of polo to the pupils, explaining that the game is similar to hockey and rugby, but on a horse. There are two teams with four players on each side who play on a field three times longer than a football pitch. Their objective is to drive a small white ball into the opposing team's goal using a long-handled mallet – it certainly sounds very exciting!
Ella and Whisky finished off the assembly by demonstrating how the player and pony work together, hitting a polo ball as they cantered across the football pitch and even asking Whisky to walk backwards.
A huge thank you to Ella, Major Carney and Whisky for taking the time to visit The Croft.
