The Croft Summer Concert

Joe L, Leader of the Orchestra, writes: Wow! What a fabulous Summer Concert The Croft performed last Friday evening!

We were transported back in time for the Senior Choir’s Shakespeare songs and the Recorder Ensemble’s fabulous performance of ‘Mattachins’. The Orchestra travelled into a galaxy far, far away to perform ‘The Force Awakens’. Oh! Not forgetting we stopped off halfway, in the jungle, with the Percussion Ensemble’s super performance of ‘Bare Necessities’.

We travelled to Mexico to watch the Guitar Ensemble deliver a truly amazing performance. Miles Davis came back to play us an extraordinary piece - by that, I mean the amazing Jazz Ensemble - and when, in our dress rehearsal, the Brass Ensemble started playing, the Pre-Prep children had an amazing time and were on their feet dancing!

I won’t forget the horn duet by Jonathan B and Sienna L, and the brilliant clarinet trio. The horn duo was a piece of wonder and the clarinet trio captivated all the faces in the audience, including mine. Jake F stunned everybody with his brilliant guitar solo and I truly enjoyed playing my xylophone solo. I particularly enjoyed our final performance with Mr Harris - I’m sure everybody will miss him. Good luck Mr H!

The Flute Quintet was a highlight of the show with its amazing playing. It was incredible how each of the five kept the pulse in their head to deliver a superb performance. The String Ensemble took us on an underwater musical journey capturing the audience with shark attacks and beautiful images of barrier reefs. Additionally, Wind Band gave us the spirit of Glenn Miller with a stunning performance of ‘Little Brown Jug’. As if all this wasn’t enough, the Year 6 Singers dazzled the audience with their Wizard song, singing beautifully with excellent dramatic actions.

The Orchestra wowed us with two further pieces from ‘Concertino in D Major’, with excellent solo performances from

Barnaby W and Burcin D. Charlotte S outstandingly arranged one of the Orchestra pieces, ‘Moody Prawn Blues’. Good luck Charlotte with your future composing!

The Senior Choir and Percussion Ensemble rounded the evening off with a super performance of Eric Whitacre’s ‘Fly to Paradise’. What an amazing way to finish our Summer Concert.

I would like to thank Mr Shortman, all the teachers and children for their hard work. You all did an amazing job - well done, Croft musicians!
