On Saturday 7 December, two of our Year 6 pupils, Max T and Ollie L, took part in a very special performance of ‘The Snowman’ with the Coventry Heart of England Co-operative Orchestra. Here’s how they got on:
Ollie L writes: "Last month I had an audition to sing ‘Walking in the Air’, and I was chosen to be the understudy. I had three evening practices with the Heart of England Co-operative Orchestra. At the first rehearsal, the conductor, Mr Wooton, asked me to sing the first verse of ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, as a solo. Being the understudy, I had not expected to perform anything on the day! At the concert I had a great time. It was an amazing feeling singing with the orchestra! Max and I received a big chocolate Snowman plus a card signed by all of the orchestra. I would like to thank Mr Shortman, Mr Wooton and the orchestra. They have helped me grow in confidence when singing, so much so that I can now practise in front of my Mum and Dad!"
Max T writes: "I was so thrilled to be given the part of singing the solo in The Snowman. My first practice was at Coventry Methodist Hall, a massive place with lots of organ pipes! I met the superb conductor, Mr Wooton, and he was really nice so I didn't feel scared. Singing with the orchestra behind me was an amazing feeling. I wasn't nervous at all before! The audience loved it and my mum cried! At the end of the concert the audience wanted an encore, so Ollie and I sang ‘Walking in the Air’ together. I loved every minute. I want to say a big thank you to Mr Shortman for auditioning us and Mrs Bolton for helping me with the song."
