Shakespeare's 450th Anniversary Celebrations
Croft pupils formed part of the People's Pageant, celebrating Shakespeare's 450th birthday in Stratford upon Avon. Pupils watched as the ceremony of 'Handing Over The Quill' took place, then the flags were unfurled and Happy Birthday was sang to the bard. The procession then moved to Holy Trinity Church to make a pilgrimage to Shakespeare's grave where pupils laid flowers. Twenty-two girls from Year 3 to Year 6 took part in the dancing (despite the cold wind blowing) listening intently to the live music and caller. There was lots of support from parents and onlookers, and, at the end, all of the schools joined together for one large dance and then parents were invited to join in too. Shakespeare's Birthday Celebration was a very happy occasion which the children thoroughly enjoyed – why then, can one desire too much of a good thing!
