The morning sunshine heralded Prep Sports Day - after what felt like weeks of rain, cancelled match fixtures and soggy fields, it was a relief to put all the practice into action. The PE department had arranged an absolute treat of a Sports Day for pupils with a football and netball tournament running concurrently with the athletic track and field events.
There were many sporting highlights during the day, with countless pupils achieving their personal bests and with five new school records being set. Two races deserve mentioning: Year 5 girls’ 800 metres race was paced as if it were a world championship, with the girls employing all the techniques and tactics they had been taught; and the hotly contested relays, with the batons being handed over smoothly with no hiccups.
Although much of the Sports Day was based on individual performance, it was a pleasure to see the pupils taking pride in their Houses. The Croft’s rural location proved to be a true advantage as no one seemed to mind the roar of over 200 children cheering on their peers! Their collective support and joy for their competing teammates showed great team spirit.
It was wonderful to see so many families supporting the event and helping to make Sports Day such a success.
