Congratulations to the U9 Rugby team for qualifying from the North & Midlands Regional Festival of the National Schools Rugby Tournament. The squad will now travel to Epsom College for what will be a fantastic experience at the finals in March 2016.
On Sunday 22nd, a cold but bright November morning, the best teams from the North and Midlands regions descended on Warwick School. The tournament attracts the very best rugby schools in the country, over 80 schools enter with an incredible 170 teams – and the standard seems to go up each year.
We were in a pool with two other sides that were unbeaten this season, so qualification was always going to be difficult. The boys won their first game against Warwick and then drew a thrilling game against Gayhurst - 5 tries a piece. Their third game was a comfortable win against St John’s which set up our final game against St Faith’s, arguably the two best teams in the pool. The standard of rugby was fabulous and the tackling and commitment of the boys were exceptional. We lost narrowly, but haddone enough to qualify. Well done, boys - a fantastic squad effort!
A huge thank you to all the parents and siblings who came to roar the boys on - I look forward to seeing you all at Epsom on Sunday 6 March.
