Former pupil, Dan McColm, has had The Croft glued to Channels 4's game show, Countdown. The 'octochamp' battled through rounds, to succeed as series champion, winning the Richard Whiteley Memorial Trophy.
Dan offered words such as NANOTUBE, TERATOMA, PERORATE and the modern word, WHATEV. With a flawless numbers and conundrum performance (Dan solved the conundrum PHOTOBOMB in just a second!), he was able to amass an octototal of 942 – the sixth highest in the show's history!
Years 5 and 6 pupils were eager to discuss Dan's progress after each show in their lessons the following day. Dan certainly inspired the pupils to extend their vocabulary at every opportunity, and to practise their mental arithmetic skills.
'Lion sang at court' to Dan on his Countdown triumph!
