Geology
The Croft boasts one of the most impressive collections of fossils, rocks and gems of any school in the UK.
The Geology Museum houses several thousand specimens, and provides a fabulous learning resource, which is enjoyed by, and available to, every child in the School.
Geology is incorporated into the Science syllabus for Year 5 children. The highlight of their year comes when knowledge learnt in the Geology Museum is applied on a field trip to Hock Cliff, on the Severn Estuary. Here, the children dig for their own fossils in this rich fertile bed, where ammonites and belemnites once swam in warm Mediterranean-like waters.
The Geology Museum represents the late Tim Thornton’s passion for the subject. This lifetime collection is his legacy to future generations of children who are educated at the School.
