The Croft Preparatory School

Art

Art enables children to explore their own imagination and creativity, and allows this to shine through. It plays an important part in a child’s development and, consequently, it has an integral rôle in the curriculum. Children are given the opportunity to express their artistic talent through practical and visual stimulation.

From Nursery, children are encouraged to express themselves through a variety of art forms. In Pre-Prep and Early Years, they learn the basic skills of drawing, painting, cutting and sticking. These skills are taught to encourage the enjoyment of visual communication. From Year 3, children begin to use the Art Studio, with the support of an Art Specialist. Techniques are taught which enable them to cope confidently with different materials, and new themes, so that by Year 6 children have practised a variety of styles, so building the confidence needed to realise their own creative skills.

All children are encouraged to develop their individual creative talent, and enjoy seeing their work exhibited both within School and at external Art Exhibitions. Some children work towards Art Scholarships, while others enjoy their art work for its own sake.
